May is here, and with it comes the return of Westfield Starfires baseball to the Whip City. With the excitement already building, the team has announced its schedule of promotions for the team’s eighth campaign at Bullens Field.
Opening Night is slated for Friday, May 29 and will see Westfield face off with the three-time defending Futures League Champion, the Norwich Sea Unicorns. Andy Borregales, kicker for the New England Patriots, will make an appearance, and in addition to signing autographs, he will kick footballs from home plate to the outfield for kids to catch. One lucky fan will be selected to escort him to the mound for a ceremonial first pitch.
The Starfires are once again partnering with local schools for a series of Education Day Games. Those eight contests, all on weekdays in the first three weeks of the season, will feature a 10:30 a.m. first pitch time.
Several popular promotions are making their return to Bullens Field; the team’s annual post-game fireworks night will be Friday, June 12, which will also be the first night game at home for the Starfires against the league’s newest franchise, the Lowell Spinners. Military Appreciation Night will be Friday, June 19, and the team will celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday, June 21, inviting kids and their dads to have a catch on the field.
The team will host a pair of Dollar Dog Nights on June 11 and June 25; the first of these will feature even more dogs, as the team hosts its Bark In The Park game. Star Wars Night also strikes back, with the team’s specialty jerseys on Saturday, June 27.
In addition, the team is debuting several new promotions.
Wednesday, June 24 will feature Vincent Chapman, the Dancing Umpire from the Savannah Bananas, making his Bullens Field debut, while July 6 and 7 will feature a Gen Z favorite meme as the team hosts a pair of Six-Seven games.
Two bobblehead giveaways will help the team close out July; the first 500 fans to each game can obtain a bobblehead of Westfield native and Olympic Gold Medalist Kacey Bellamy on July 25, and a Roger Clemens bobblehead on July 31 following a tremendous visit to the Whip City by The Rocket.
The team is also returning to the Walker Memorial Grandstand for the fourth year, facing its in-state rival, the Worcester Bravehearts, on Sunday, June 28 for the Starfires Summer Classic, and will once again battle the Vermont Lake Monsters at Dunkin Park in Hartford, Connecticut on Wednesday, July 15.
That game, as well as Westfield’s contest the following day in Worcester, will both be broadcast on NESN, giving fans throughout New England a taste of Bullens Magic on the region’s premiere sports network.
Finally, the team’s regular season finale on Saturday, August 8, will be Fan Appreciation Night.
