NASHUA, New Hampshire (June 25, 2022) – The Westfield Starfires pitching staff put together another gem, smothering the Nashua Silver Knights in a 3-1 Futures Collegiate Baseball League win on Saturday, June 25.
The win boosts Westfield’s record to 15-11 on the season.
Both teams scored first-inning runs. Jackson Hornung singled for the Starfires, and advanced to second on a groundout before Patrick D’Amico drove a ball to center field to plate him. Pat McConnell answered with a one-out double for Nashua, and came home on a Kyle Wolff base hit to right.
In the fourth, the Starfires swiped the lead back. D’Amico reached on an error, followed by a walk to Caleb Stelly and a hit by Brendan Jones. Now at third, D’Amico was gifted home thanks to a passed ball, giving the Starfires a 2-1 edge.
One more run came home in the seventh to seal the win. Jack Power singled to right, and was moved over on a sacrifice by Luca Giallongo, who also reached thanks to a miscue at first base. Nathan Lincoln then walked to pack the bases, setting up Hornung to hit a sacrifice fly that sent Power home.
Ryan Donahue put on a clinic; after the two hits in the first, he allowed no one else to reach safely over a total of five frames, fanning seven. Sam Craven threw one inning of relief, allowing a walk and striking out one; Max Moss picked up a save with three scoreless innings to close the game out, allowing one walk and two hits with a strikeout.
