Westfield,MA _The Westfield Starfires and Head Coach Bill Sandillo announced today the hiring for former New York Mets pitcher and Springfield, MA native, Pat Strange as the Pitching Coach
for the Westfield Starfires.
“Pat’s pro experience and professionalism will be a great addition to the Starfires staff. I look forward to working with him this summer” said Sandillo.
A second round pick of the Mets in 1998, Strange played his local ball at Springfield Central High School before signing. He was the only player to be named Gatorade Massachusetts Baseball Player of the Year twice, doing so consecutively in 1997 and 1998.
He would go on to make his Major League debut on September 13, 2002. Since his playing days, Strange has been coaching several travel programs and has been the pitching coach for Westfield High School for the past three seasons.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity of working with Billy Sandillo at the college level. It will be a great benefit to have him in the area.” said Strange
Coach Sandillo’s sentiments were echoed by Front Office staff “We are thrilled to add yet another household name from the Western Massachusetts baseball community” said Director of Baseball Ops, Evan Moorhouse. “Our goal is to provide our athletes with the best possible resources throughout their time in Westfield and the addition of Pat further ensures that."
Strange will oversee all aspects of the pitching staff including development and analysis.
