WESTFIELD, Mass. (May 2, 2022) – The City of Westfield and the Westfield Starfires are excited to announce the arrival of the New England Sports Network (NESN) at Billy Bullens Field this summer.
“It’s a privilege to have the Starfires game broadcast live highlighting Westfield,” said Mayor Michael A. McCabe. “I am looking forward to a great game, and an enthusiastic crowd to showcase Westfield’s strong tradition in baseball.”
On July 16, the city’s beloved ballpark will make its first-ever appearance on NESN when the Starfires face Worcester for another 1 p.m. first pitch.
“This is a great opportunity to showcase the community and historic Bullens Field,” said Starfires owner Chris Thompson. “The Starfires are proud to partner with the city in producing this event”
The Starfires have appeared on NESN over the last two seasons. Both of those games were on the road.
The Westfield Starfires entered the Futures Collegiate Baseball League in 2019 and have successfully showcased the top college baseball players in the country for local fans.
Founded in 2011, The Futures League is a wood-bat league featuring top collegiate baseball players from New England and throughout the country. The league features eight teams following the expansion to two former minor league markets — Burlington, Vt. and Norwich, Conn. — for 2021 and has attracted more than two million fans to games since its inception. On the field, over 200 alumni have been drafted by or signed with Major League Baseball organizations and seven have advanced all the way to “The Show.”
